Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is often quoted from his autobiography as saying, “To travel is to live.” But that quote is truncated. The full quote is “To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, To gain all while you give, To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live.” Andersen knew the value of travel to expand your horizons. And sometimes, that means leaving your comfort zone. By offering a piece of vulnerability, to allow yourself to try something new somewhere unfamiliar, you’ll gain knowledge, joy, and unforgettable moments.
For many, the thought of traveling without a designated travel companion certainly falls under the vulnerability category. Guided travel offers you the best of both worlds – other travelers who share your passion that you can share experiences with, an expertly planned itinerary so you can be sure you’re seeing all the must-sees (and more), and free time mixed in so you can get a taste of solo travel if you choose, and still have support on standby if you want or need it.
In this new series, we are diving into some of the best places to visit as a solo traveler. If any of these places were calling out to you, but you were waiting for a friend, partner, or spouse, consider this your sign that it’s time to give solo travel a go.
But where to? For solo travelers looking to explore the U.S., these are some of our top picks:
