In a season of pressure to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, Giving Tuesday is a welcome reminder that this time of year is not really about fancy electronics or the hottest toy. The true purpose is simply to give from our hearts. If we take even the simplest of actions, we can help transform the world. Let this day be a reminder to us all that we can help others by giving the gift of our time, our moral support and our donations.
Giving Tuesday marks the official launch of our Collette Cares One Million Meals campaign. The goal of this global hunger initiative is to provide one million meals to those in need all over the world by 2018, the 100th anniversary of Collette.
We kicked off #1millionmeals back in July at a meal packaging event with our lead partner, Stop Hunger Now. 240 Collette volunteers created 30,000 meals in just one afternoon! Those meals recently went to Haiti to aid people in dire need.
In addition to Stop Hunger Now, Collette Cares is also partnering with No Kid Hungry and Edesia to give meals as part of this campaign. The Collette team is very excited to play a role in ending world hunger, and our volunteer efforts will play a huge part in reaching our goal of providing 1 million meals by 2018.
Throughout the next two years, employees will volunteer their time at soup kitchens and food banks near our offices in Rhode Island, Canada, the UK and Australia. Their time and effort will take on new meaning as we begin to measure our impact in terms of the meals we provide. Every employee will be aware of the role they played in bringing about this incredible outcome.
Additionally, in long-running global projects in countries like Peru, South Africa, Cambodia and India, our support funds meal programs which incentivizes children to stay in school, and nourishes them so that they can focus and learn.
Another piece of our global hunger initiative is our holiday Share a Meal campaign. Launched just before Thanksgiving day in the United States and going through until the end of December, we ask that you like the video below, tag a friend and share it. For each action, we will provide one meal. If you do all three, we’ll donate three meals.
So far, this has been a great success. We have reached over 130,00 people on Facebook. Our video has been viewed over 56,000 times and we’ve had 4,000 likes, comments and shares. But there’s still time for you to help us feed even more people!
Please like, tag a friend and share our video!
Our One Million Meals campaign truly unites our global team. Driven by volunteering and employee involvement, together we plan to celebrate 100 years of Collette in a way that celebrates one of our strongest values: giving back to the world that gives us so much.
