The game drives were incredible and we saw so many animals that we were just amazed! We however were disappointed with the accommodations at the Thorn Tree Camp in Karatu, Tanzania. It's a very tired property that needs updating. During our three nights there, we had no hot water for two of them. One additional observation is that the original assignment of vehicles at the very beginning of the tour was chaotic. We were a total group of 18 traveling in 3 vehicles and to our group of five an additional couple was added making for a total of 7 traveling in one vehicle (there was a solo traveler that could have made it a group of 6 in each vehicle but instead we had our 7 in one vehicle, 6 in another vehicle and only 5 in the third vehicle). We were disappointed that the Tour Manager never took control of this situation by assigning 6 travelers to each vehicle.

The tour itself was great. The locations, activities and wild animals made the whole thing very much worthwhile. Some of the lodgings were in tents or lodges without AC, but that's what we expected so no surprise. The food was good but not great. Things to know: 1) the dust in the dry season can be unbelievably bad, 2) there are many other tour operators out there, so you are likely to be in a queue of 20 vehicles all trying to see the same sleeping lion.

Our guide, Alfred, was awesome and full of knowledge about the animals and where we would likely see each kind, the plants in each zone and their uses and what ate them, and the geography of each country and zone we traveled in. Really enjoyed our African Tour, it included the Serengeti, Amboseli National Park and a lot more. Our tour Director was Felix and he did a wonderful job leading our group and keeping us informed as we progressed through Africa. The only downside was the roads for the Safaris they made the ride very difficult and uncomfortable. They were like a washboard and when we were moving at a quick speed it was really uncomfortable. We were not warned in advance that we would need to "pick the flowers" when no formal washroom was available. Felix said that he had toilet paper but he was not in our vehicle when we had to "Pick the flowers". The Glamping was OK, but some of the tents really did not keep the bugs out and the crickets got in and were extremely loud. Also had a bat in one hotel and a very large roach. Food was acceptable but not great. The buffets were almost all the same foods with minor differences and not one could cook chicken. The chicken at every facility was like a rock. My husband took the Serengeti Air ballon Safari and loved it. He felt it should be offered by Collette. In spite of the negatives mentioned here I really loved the experience. Thanks.

The whole experience was amazing. The Serengeti and the Amboseli National park were a wonderful experience. We saw most of the wildlife that you would have expected. The length of time spent on safari was long because we saw the same wildlife repeatedly and the rough roads really made for a very long day. Our tour guide was Felix and he mentioned the east coast of Africa was more of a beach environment and would have made a little more relaxing few days instead of driving on unpaved, dirt, rough roads the entire trip.
My average rating for the accommodations is not because the idea of Glamping was bad but the tents themselves were not pleasant to stay in. One of the facilities had wood around the perimeter and it was either rotted or termite invested and allowed bugs to get into the rooms. The food was almost always buffet, ok but not inspired and about the same at all the different places we stayed. Choices were ok, 2 entres were offered at all the places so you did have choices. They should not serve chicken, every place we stayed the chicken was rock hard and dry as the Serengeti. The tour was infact very enjoyable but with reservations.

The African Safari is exhausting. It’s not all walking, hiking, and moving, but 14 days in rough riding jeeps on dusty, dry, dirt roads is exhausting on a body. I would have loved to have a couple of down days, but our guide wanted to give us the best opportunity to see everything - and he did!!
The people in Africa could not have been kinder or more appreciative of us being there.

Tour manager Felix was fantastic- very knowledgeable. We had 3 trucks and he would alternate so we all heard some of his comments about the animals, trees, birds. It would be better if he had a system like whisper tech to allow all of us to hear the info every day.
Collette did a great job with lodging, transportation, food and excursions.
Great trip,

We had expert guidance from Titus, our tour guide and the drivers. We did see the big five animals and a huge number of others in the Great Migration. The total count was that we saw thirty different lions along with one leopard and a family of cheetahs.
The accommodations were great, the food was very good, the people were great and we had a great time.

This was a once in a lifetime trip for me. It was totally different than any other trip I have taken. Going into the villages and seeing how they live was a real eye opener. The volume of animals was so much more than I expected.

The Tour Manager knew so much about the culture of the people and explained about the geological aspects of the region. Our safari drivers knew a lot about the animals and were very entertaining. My favorite time was at night relaxing with friends and watching the stars
