As a relatively new employee at Collette, I can tell you that the shadow of our founder, Dan Sullivan Sr., looms large around here. Not simply because his son, Dan Sullivan Jr. is our CEO, or because his granddaughter, Jaclyn Leibl-Cote is our President, but because his legacy of philanthropy and giving back to the community is one of the pillars on which Collette still stands today.

The world was a different place when Dan Sr. bought Collette back in 1962—Kennedy was in office, the average home in the U.S. cost about $13,000, and another two years would pass before Beatlemania swept the nation. The phrase “corporate social responsibility” wasn’t exactly rolling off people’s tongues yet, but the idea behind it was woven into the fabric of Collette’s business philosophy from day one.

One of Collette’s guiding principles is that travel should be a force for good. We love enhancing our travellers’ lives by helping them see the world, but we also strive to support every community and natural environment we have the pleasure of visiting. We do this by giving back in a number of ways; through volunteering and providing financial support to nonprofits, and through responsible travel initiatives like our animal welfare policy, the inclusion of eco-friendly transportation options, and a commitment to working with social enterprises while on tour.

In the spirit of our founder, we’ll be kicking off service projects all month, including working with a local nonprofit that helps individuals overcome homelessness. While the pandemic has made it difficult to implement volunteer opportunities in recent years, the team at Collette is ready to get back out into the community to make a difference in 2022.
